In April 2025 we were in Heanor for a weekend of free, family friendly activities, workshops and pop-up performances celebrating all things handmade. Whether you're a woodworking wizard, a knitting newbie or a crochet connoisseur it was a time to get stuck in.
You could drop into the Community Living Room for a spot of mischief and making as local hosts Val & Trev (Maison Foo Theatre) broadcasted live from Heanor Market Place in their pop-up living room!
You could get hands-on with free Making Workshops led by local makers and creatives repurposing old household items, textiles and resources and make your very own bird box with Swanwick Men’s Shed. We also had The Makory, a mobile maker space on wheels inviting families to hop on board for free making workshops hosted in collaboration with Derby Museums.
There was free family friendly activities at Infinite Wellbeing Community Centre. An accessible space hosted by Hubbub Theatre with chillout tunes from Hubbub DJs and creative workshops all day as well as pop-up performances programmed by Furthest from the Sea.
It was an opportunity to try something new and learn from your neighbours.
Thanks to everyone who joined us at Derbyshire Makes Heanor, we are looking forward to doing it again May 2026. You can relive some of the moments in these short films here:
